Bernie Toupin reveals surprising original inspiration for candle in the wind

Bernie Taupin has uncovered he didn't at first expect the first form of Flame In The Breeze to be about Marilyn Monroe.

The Oscar-winning lyricist, whose long-running cooperation with Elton John is one of the best and productive in current music, said he initially made arrangements for the tune to be about the entertainer Montgomery Clift.

Flame In The Breeze's verses were later revamped as a recognition for the late Diana, Princess of Grains, after her demise in 1997.
